General Post Support to Veterans and Communities
Across the nation and especially here in New Jersey where over 450,000 Veterans reside too many are in financial and medical need. American Legion Post 331 in Stone Harbor is a volunteer organization of current and former military personnel whose primary objective is supporting those who served and are currently serving our country. Through the fund-raising activities of our members and the support of our communities our Post has generously donated to Veteran and local organizations. We provide support to the Stone Harbor Senior Citizens Club by providing our building for their weekly Wednesday meetings.
Home for the Holidays
Home for the Holidays, sponsored by Post 331 in coordination with the US Coast Guard Base at Cape May New Jersey, has been around since 2015. The program has been designed and setup to support US Coast Guard families and single Coast Guard members with a chance to go home for the Christmas holidays at no cost to themselves. Coast Guard enlisted personnel in the grade of E-4 or less are eligible to apply for a chance to win this trip anywhere in the continental US, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. Winners are selected by lottery by the senior enlisted cadre at the base.
Military Funerals
Post 331, upon request provides grave-side service military honors (Rifle Salute, Taps, etc.) for deceased military members. Post 331 will provide in church and grave site services for veterans who have honorably served our country. Contact our Post Commander to request such services.
Post 331 Activities Handbook
Our Post 331 Activities Handbook contains all that you want to know about our Post: events, programs, our history, mission, and community events. It is passed out each Memorial Day along our parade routes and placed at various locations for the summer months. The Handbook is made possible by donations from local businesses that advertise and by individuals that want to be Patrons. Consider participating in order to help us support Cape May County veterans. You can view our Handbook by this link or by clicking the handbook cover.
Post 331 Raffle (50/50)
The 50/50 raffle is one of our major fundraisers. Not only do purchasers have a chance to win a cash prize, you are also helping the Post support Cape May County veterans. Tickets can be purchased at various events during the summer and from Post and S. A. L. members, or by stopping by the Post. Winners are drawn on Veterans Day.
Unserviceable Flag Disposal
American Legion Post 331 is the local agent for the collection and disposal of unserviceable American flags. The Post maintains two collection points on the Seven Mile Island. The point in Avalon is located on the north side of the Borough Hall outside the Senior Center and the one in Stone Harbor is in front of our building. In partnership with the Radazieta Funeral Home in Cape May Court House, collected unserviceable flags are honorably destroyed. (Over a 1,000 flags per year are disposed of by the funeral home.)
Additionally, the Post distributes the star field from the unserviceable flags to a non-profit, charitable organization in Florida in support of their program called Operation Shoebox, which sends a star with a care package to overseas service members.
